At Optimal Synthesis Inc., we take pride in delivering high-quality work. We adhere to the highest industry development and documentation standards, and enact the strategies that ensure low overhead and on-time delivery. Quality assurance is an integral part of every stage of our product development and service delivery. OSI has received accolades from clients for the quality of work we have done under various research projects. Key elements of our quality assurance processes are as follows:
OSI aspires to create solutions that meet the strictest development and documentation standards in the industry. Under each project undertaken by OSI, the management clearly conveys the expectations with respect to the final product to the task team at the beginning of the project. Secondly, our engineers have significant training in quality assurance.
Most importantly, at each stage of the process, system components are evaluated against the specifications to assure quality. We pay particular attention to the following:
Schedule: We keep a close track to ensure projects are completed on schedule, and that there is adequate communication and planning to anticipate any delays and to take the appropriate corrective actions.
Quality: We strive to develop products with zero errors. In the case of software development, OSI follows the highest industry standards with respect to software requirements, design, code, and testing. Typically, OSI creates a series of test case scenarios for a module. Each test scenario fully exercises all features of the particular module for which it was created. In addition to the module test case scenarios, unit test cases are created for important sub-functions of each module.
Management: We aim to maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction and responsiveness to task order requirements and changes, closely tracking timelines, problem identification and corrective actions.
Cost: We maintain forecasting, and manage and control costs scrupulously.
Quality control is supervised by the designated manager of the task order, with input from the leadership of the company. OSI strongly believes in the “shallow pyramid” concept for its project management, by strictly limiting the number of management layers to two in any task. While the leadership is primarily responsible for timely delivery and conformance with the proposed budget, we believe in holding every team member responsible for the success of the project. OSI strongly believes in free flow of information with the team members and the sponsor. We believe this is especially important to produce high-quality work.
For each task order, OSI will identify a Task Manager by name, and will provide full contact information to the contracting agency. The Task Manager is typically a Principal Scientist or Research Scientist working on the task who reports to the Program Manager. The Task Manager leads the team of Research Scientists and Research Engineers.
Over the past 18 years, OSI has successfully managed over 60 government and private-sector contracts, and has built up significant contract management experience. The Program Manager typically manages between 3 and 5 contracts each year. For individual task orders, OSI will prepare a detailed Gantt chart, and adhere to them throughout the project. Any variance with these charts will be promptly communicated to the contracting agency. OSI tracks costs expended under each task on a weekly basis. Having executed a large number of contracts, OSI personnel are very familiar with maintaining a systematic tracking system for multiple projects.
Optimal Synthesis Inc. work plan includes regular team meetings, working groups, program reviews, and senior level status reviews. At the outset of the proposed activities, OSI creates schedules for program reviews and senior-level status reviews which help achieve a high level of accountability and flexibility to catch and solve problems in the early stages. In consultation with the officers of the contracting agency, OSI schedules team meetings and organizes working groups for resolving issues as they arise. OSI maintains detailed minutes of each meeting and creates a set of action items for follow-up and resolution. The risks in each action are identified as are potential approaches for mitigating the risks.
OSI implements optimization processes for each task order whereby the most efficient method to organize the work is developed. Analyzing the requirements of a task or sub-task, including the ideal level of skill, OSI assigns the particular task to the person who can complete it most efficiently. All of our staff have a range of skills in which they are proficient, but for the individual tasks we leverage their areas of strength. We also develop the appropriate team composition for each task. OSI also directly empowers all it employees by giving them responsibility for the project. All of the above ensures that there is a customized plan to meet any level of task order while maintaining quality.
